Aurora Illumination Series with Death From Above @ The Phoenix Concert Theatre

The expectations were high for the Aurora Illumination Concert Series event at The Phoenix Concert Theatre on May 31st, but they far exceeded everything that we had hoped for! Aurora put on a FREE show with Death From Above, and the night is sure to leave you green with envy if you weren’t there.

The Aurora Illumination Concert Series is a summer-long celebration that will ignite every corner of Canada with free musical performances. Their first one in Toronto, with Death From Above, Casper Skulls and Teenanger, invited fans to sign-up online for a chance to win FREE tickets to the show. As well as entry to the show, fans were treated to complimentary cocktails, lots of freebies, and one pretty kick-ass show.

With Casper Skulls and Teenanger sparking things up, Death From Above were ready to set The Phoenix stage ablaze with tracks off their new album, Outrage! Is Now. With that in mind, the boys kicked things off with two of those tunes, “Nomad” and “Caught Up”, which represent a return to familiar themes for the Canadian-punk legends. Along with other new tracks, like “Freeze Me” and “Never Swim Alone”, DFA treated fans to a whole string of tunes from their repertoire to satisfy a fan from any era. Whether you wanted debut album hits like “Romantic Rights” and “Turn It Out”, or needed your “Trainwreck 1979”-fix, or maybe you wanted some deep cuts like “Little Sister” or “Black History Month”, there was something for everyone on this set list! Without a doubt, it was one of the best performances that I personally had ever seen by DFA, and gets me pumped to see them again this summer.

The next Aurora Illumination Concert Series event in Toronto is TBA, but you can sign up HERE to keep up with all of the details. If the first night was any indication, it’s one party you won’t want to miss!
