A 31-year-old Ajax elementary teacher is facing multiple sexual assault charges involving a 10-year-old student.
Durham Regional Police said the male victim was sexually assaulted while attending Da Vinci Public School in Ajax during the 2017 and 2018 school year.
Police say Krystal Wilson, also known by students as Krystal Clunis, is currently a teacher at Roland Michner Public School in Ajax.
She has been charged with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of sexual interference.
She appeared at the Oshawa courthouse on Thursday and was released on $5,000 bail with strict conditions, including not being in the company of anyone under the age of 14 unless she is with an adult 21 years of age or older.
Police say the accused, who is a resident of Whitby, also worked at Robert Munsch Public School in Whitby as well as Vincent Massey Public School and Dr. SJ Phillips in Oshawa.
The Durham District School Board told Global News that Wilson is “currently on leave” and did not clarify if it was with or without pay.
A statement released by the board Thursday afternoon said they are cooperating with the Durham Children’s Aid Society and the Durham Regional Police Service during their respective investigations.
“Each school are sending communications home to parents and guardians today to provide an update,” the statement read.
“We will continue to work with our community partners until this investigation is concluded. All students and parents with information have been directed to contact the officer in charge of the investigation.”
Authorities are urging anyone who may have information connected with the investigation to contact Det. Const. Dalziel of the DRPS Child Abuse Sexual Assault Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5334 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
