He’s got another confession to make…
And this time he has to tell it all by himself.
Dave Grohl has been teasing the release of a 23-minute, 7-instrument song, called ‘PLAY’, for the last little while, and he has finally delivered. In a 32-minute documentary about the making of the song, Grohl details how “to any musician, a beautiful studio full of instruments is like a kid in a candy store.”
Here’s what they are saying about ‘PLAY’:
“PLAY” is a two part mini-documentary, directed by Dave Grohl celebrating the rewards and challenges of dedicating one’s life to playing music. Part one opens with narrated behind the scenes discussion of the love of playing music and the lifelong relationship with an instrument—as well as the process and challenges of recording and filming this unique performance: The “PLAY” film then segues to the titular 23-minute, one-man-band instrumental recording on which Grohl plays all seven instruments on the track, all live. The entire song was played by Grohl, each time on a different instrument, live all the way through for 23 minutes.”

Whats also cool, is that they have created a totally immersive experience, where you can select which instrument you want to focus the camera on, and which audio experience you want to enjoy. Check it out HERE, you won’t regret it.
In ‘PLAY’, Grohl talks about how every musicians journey to fine tune and hone their craft is a lifelong event. Once it starts, its hard for the creative bug to flow. The video sees Dave playing with 6 other versions of himself, playing different instruments. From drums to guitar to bass to tambourine, and even some cowbell, Grohl really flexes his musical muscle on this one.
Foo Fighters recently played in Toronto at the Rogers Centre on July 12th, which was accompanied by quite the extensive merch table. Foo Fighters continue their Concrete & Gold Tour this fall across North America.
